ABOUT US
“We would be grateful if our products could settle naturally into your hands and daily life.”
-
In 2009, we began working in leathercraft.
Drawn to the depth of its techniques and our love for making things, we have continued to this day.
We believe it is Hamadaya’s role to honestly keep improving what we can do.
-
Scars in leather are often avoided before a product is made.
They are set aside because they are considered imperfect.
When we questioned this way of thinking,
We began to look for a way to work with the scars, rather than remove them.
Applying urushi lacquer and gold powder is one response to that question.
-
Applying lacquer and hand-stitching takes about one month.
Leather and lacquer are natural materials, so no two pieces are exactly the same.
Each one has its own character.Depending on the material, fine cracks may appear in the lacquer.
Out of ten pieces, usually only six to eight meet our standards.
The price reflects this time, process, and careful work.
-
Through making, we come into contact with feelings that have no visible form.
This way of working is based on Hamadaya’s belief:
“To sense the infinite within the finite.”Our process includes time-consuming techniques such as hand stitching and urushi lacquer finishing.
These methods may seem inefficient,
but they allow us to work slowly and with care,
paying attention to each material and every step. The sound of cutting leather,
the gentle strike of a hammer —
small sensations felt in our fingertips.Through the five senses,
these quiet moments gradually become something without shape:
wonder, attachment, memories,
or feelings that are hard to express in words.Through making, we share these unseen sensations and emotions.
“To sense the infinite within the finite.”
We believe this leads to a deeper richness of the heart.
